When choosing a wedding band for the groom, there are often practical considerations. Here are the first four of ten questions to think about before purchasing the ring. 1. Will it be comfortable? Most men rate the comfort factor high on their list of requirements for a wedding band. Since a man’s wedding ring is apt to be more streamlined than a woman’s, it is often easier to build in comfort with the shape of the edge or the cut of the metal. When you’re looking for a ring that feels good on his finger, consider these options:
Many ring designers build in one or more of these comfort features. When looking at men's wedding bands, look for a "comfort fit" or similar designation. |

2. Will the ring be appropriate for his lifestyle? How does he spend his time? Does he like the theatre or a ball game? Does he enjoy five-star restaurants or ordering in pizza? Does he run in the morning and pump iron or avoid exercise like the plague? There are no right or wrong answers; there are only his answers, which have a direct bearing on the choice of a the ring. Elegant or rough and tumble, what kind to wear or whether to wear one at all is his choice. If he is active and wants to wear a wedding band at all times, a sturdy titanium wedding band is a good lifestyle choice. Less active lifestyle? A 14K white gold ring (or other wedding band made from gold, a softer metal than titanium) may be better suited. 3. Will it reflect his personality? When women make choices about rings and other elements of their weddings, they consider their personalities. You should do that, as well. It’s important to find a match between this very important fashion accessory and who he is. Is he no frills or flamboyant, conservative or flashy, consistent or mercurial? It’s worth the time to ask yourself these questions. If he dresses classically and work in a formal environment, a fancy, diamond wedding band probably isn’t the best choice. Also, don’t opt for a passing fad in jewelry; he is going to be wearing this ring for a long time. 4. Will this wedding band fit within the budget?Obviously, men’s wedding bands are going to vary all over the map in terms of price. Every element changes the cost—metals, materials, width, gemstones, style, design, and labor required to make the ring, to name just a few. You know what you or your fiancé can afford. Don’t allow yourself to be talked into something you will regret later. Another point to keep in mind is that, just as he pays for yours, you will most likely pay for yours. Then, the questions become will it fit within your budget? (Shopping tip: Search men's wedding bands here, then narrow the selection to rings in your price range.)
