If you are like many of us, you have at least a vague
notion what the term "art deco" means; bold, geometrically symmetrical
designs. The style exploded in the early, pre-depression twentieth
century and covered a rather wide range of looks.
Previously popular muted colors were exchanged for
bold, bright emeralds, reds (in the form of rubies), and deep blues
(sapphires). Other brightly colored gemstones were also popular, as was
black onyx and the always popular diamond.
Additionally, designs became more complex and geometric,
with straight-line detailing. Components of the Egyptian style--fueled
by pieces found with King Tut--also made its way into many Art Deco
pieces. Finally, fascination with new modes of transportation (cars and
planes) also influenced deco styles.
The men's rings below, while new, include Art Deco
details. (You can see our selection of
women's deco rings here.)
